This platform on Instagram highlights youth art done in my ceramics, sculpture and studio art classrooms at Westwood High School. The first post was on May 20th, 2019, when students convinced me that Instagram would provide a way to build artistic community through social media. Throughout the pandemic, this platform allowed my art students and me to strengthen our connections around our creative making. Both remote and hybrid schooling challenged us to think in new ways about sculpture, art and community. Students were exceptionally agile and flexible, willing to take artistic risks and try new things. My personal favorite projects to come out of this period were the "Healing What's Broken" unit and "Materials With Meaning" project, looking to identify a symbolic meaning behind a material and to use that material for the creation of an original sculptural work.
